Using “Honesty is the best policy” in an Automotive Repair Shop in Vancouver.

Earlier this month, a customer came in with their vehicle and asked for a Lube and Oil Service with a full vehicle safety inspection.  After finalizing the safety inspection, we determined that the vehicle was at the point in its service life where it should be replaced. Unfortunately, the costs of the repairs would exceed the overall value of the vehicle.  We’ve always been completely honest with all of our customers and continued to do so with this customer as well. We explained that it may be time to think about purchasing a newer car.  Obviously this is something no one wants to hear.  Knowing that you’re vehicle is in need of replacement can stress anybody out.  Plus, trying to purchase a new car can be very difficult and time consuming. There are many things to consider when purchasing a new vehicle, size, cost and fuel economy to name a few.  From our point of view, our honesty in telling the customer that their vehicle may not be worth repairing was an easy decision. We would rather see you put your hard earned money into a more feasible vehicle rather than wasting money on a vehicle that is unsafe or past its service life. Yes we lost a sale, yes we have less work to do, but we want you to be safe on the road, that’s why we’re here.  We want to make sure that you are safe on the road, not only for yourself, but also for the safety of others.  “Honesty is the Only Policy” here at Ootmar Automotive. It’s been like that for the past 83 years and it will continue to be.
